Lake Mälaren is Sweden's by far the most visited lake for long trips on ice skates. But even for dedicated skinners, the details of how the lake freezes are relatively unknown. The author Mårten Ajne has processed more than fifty years of ice and weather data and combined this with the experiences of the skating clubs. In the result, over a hundred different icing areas appear, each of which is presented in the book. Much of the focus is on the book's custom-made maps that show the freezing stages in numbered and colored zones, tributaries, straits, fairways, rifts, cracks and locations of complex water currents. Mårten Ajne has been skating for forty years and in every corner of Mälaren. He has twenty years of experience as an ice reporter and tour guide for Stockholm's skating sailing club.
