This book describes 50 hikes in Vindelfjällen – one of Europe's largest nature reserves that offers fantastic opportunities for mountain hikers. The most popular tour is the classic weekly hike along the Kungsleden between Ammarnäs and Hemavan, with its magnificent views, easy walking paths and comfortable cabins. The starting points Hemavan and Ammarnäs account for a large part of the hikes in the book. Here you can easily spend a week and do day trips and weekend hikes in different climates. From Hemavan, you have the opportunity to go directly from the breakfast table up to peaks that are 1,000 meters above – and be back down for dinner. In some other lesser-known parts of Vindelfjällen, you can hike between huts in Juktådalen's alpine forests, look for orchids on Artfjället or dip your feet in the marble canyon of Övre Ältsvatnet. The book's tour suggestions are characterized by the freedom that comes with great local knowledge. The authors carelessly mix tent trips over untracked calf mountains with gourmet dinners at hotels, short cultural walks in the vicinity of the village are interspersed with week-long hardships through rarely visited regions. Tomas Staafjord is a biologist and writer with many years of experience as a reserve manager and nature watcher in the Vindelfjällen nature reserve. He has a fondness for the Sami cultural landscape and its history. Sam Hedman is a freelance photographer and writer based in Hemavan. He spends a lot of time in the mountains all year round, not infrequently to guide hikers and skiers in the southern Lapland mountains. Release year: 2020
