Kiilopää – Hiking Guide & Mountain Map
This guide consists of a guidebook and a map that together provide all the information you need to hike in Kiilopää.
Kiilopää is located on the border of Urho Kekkonen National Park and is surrounded by a unique network of marked trails and wilderness paths.
The included map is printed on waterproof Tyvek and has two sides. One side is highly detailed at a 1:25,000 scale, showing the Kiilopää area with day hikes and ski trips. The other side is at a 1:50,000 scale and provides a broader overview. Recommended hiking trails and day trips to Sompio are marked on this map.
The texts in the book are written by Jouni Laaksonen, a wilderness guide and civil engineer based in Kuhmo with a strong passion for hiking. He has documented his experiences in over a dozen books and hundreds of magazine articles. Laaksonen has a particular interest in wilderness areas, long hikes in Lapland, national parks, family day trips, and wilderness huts. In 2016, he was awarded Finland’s Non-Fiction Writers’ Prize for his work.
